Take Stock in Children Receives $3.5 Million Investment

Established in 1995, Take Stock in Children seeks to help Florida children break the cycle of poverty. Since its founding, the group has helped 24,000 children in 67 Florida counties and provided more than two million mentor volunteer hours with the help of more than 8,200 mentors.

In January 2017, Take Stock in Children announced that it received a $3.5 million investment from the Helios Education Foundation. With these added funds, the nonprofit purchased more than 300 additional college scholarships. The scholarships benefited additional students in Central Florida.

Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida Holds Volunteer Day

Opening its doors in 1983, the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida works with more than 150 agencies to provide food to needy individuals. During the 2015 and 2016 fiscal year, the organization distributed 20.6 million pounds of food and offered 17 million meals.

One of the ways the nonprofit reaches out to those in the community is through special events. On September 9, 2017, people are invited to the organization’s Family Volunteer Day. The event is for adults and children age 10 and older. Attendees can volunteer at its Fort Myers location, where they can participate in activities such as bagging produce, coloring, and taking family photos. Attendees can also go on a tour of the 50,000-square-foot warehouse to see all the nonprofit has to offer the community.
